I Thought of You Today

A poem about a past and unforgotten love

I thought of you today…
just like I use to do
the distant memories
of yesterday are like
images on photographs
dulled by time.

I thought of you today
but not as often as before
those times we spent
were like forever
and ended so, as if
we never — were.

We talked of love back then
and innocently played
like lovers play through
corridors of youthful whims
who spent their days
in passionate bliss.

I thought of you today
I wish that I had not
reminding me of closure
never gotten, a heart
that aches a bit, even still —
when I think of you.

I thought of you today…
